Marty is working on fractals.   He wants to go from a binary number to a Julia Set, to the Mandlebrot Set and back.

Marty and I have been fascinated by fractals since we encountered Mandlebrot’s work.   I have cooked up a proto-theorem, mostly under the influence of Marty’s enthusiasm, (I don’t think it rises to the level of a mathematical theorem, it is more an idea that looks promising at this point.) that says it may be possible to begin with a number (in binary form but any base will work) and convert this number to a unique Julia Set.   There is an infinite number of Julia Sets and equal infinity of binary numbers.   The number is simply coordinated to a matched Julia Set.   Each Julia Set is specified by a coordinate pair in the Mandlebrot Set.   Thus, the coordinate pair from the Mandlebrot Set may be used to regenerate the binary number.

Upon reading this card, I’m amazed at how easily I shift from worrying about my ability to love and hold on to a relationship to some abstract mental task.
